Basketball: DBB separates from national coach Henrik Rödl
National coach Henrik Rödl and the German basketball federal government (DBB) go separated after four years. This made the association known almost two weeks after the end of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, where the DBB selection was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
We decided to put new, fresh impulses on this position in spite of the Olympic Sulfolism and in terms of Eurobasket 2022, said DBB Vice President Passport Armin Andres.
It's also my feeling that you can go apart with a successful result in the back, Rödl said, I am grateful to all contributors that participation in the Olympic Games in Tokyo has fulfilled a lifelike for me. The 52-year-old former national player had started the post in September 2017.
Anyone who becomes successor of Rödl is not yet known. The new national coach is facing a special task, since Germany is co-host of the EM 2022. The DBB team is running in Cologne (preliminary round) and in the case of progress in Berlin (final round). Also played in Georgia, Italy and the Czech Republic.
Under Rödl, the DBB team at the 2019 World Cup was disappointed in China with place 18, but convinced this year. The quarterfinal in the summer games, which came to an end with a 70:94 (37:44) against Slovenia, was the greatest success of his coaching career for the European Champion from 1993 after the impressive victory in the qualification tournament in Split / Croatia.
Another great tournament did not take place during Rödl's term, as the EM intended for 2021 had been laid by one year to the corona pandemic and the Olympic shift. In the qualification for the Eurobasket 2022 Germany played out of competition.
